Leica M9 Full-Frame Digital Rangefinder Camera

Leica announced the new M9, the world’s first digital rangefinder camera with a full-frame 24 x 36mm sensor. It is also the world’s smallest Full-Frme system camera. After the M8 and M8.2, the M9 continues the long heritage of the Leica rangefinder system and combines Leica’s M System with cutting-edge digital technology.
Leica M9 uses a 18 Megapixel full-frame image sensor specially developed by Kodak and is compatible with M lenses. The Leica viewfinder / rangefinder system sets the LEICA M9 apart from SLR and compact digital cameras
and makes it particularly suitable for reportage, ‘available light’ and discreet portraiture. Photographers become part of the action and frame their subject in the viewfinder, while still being able to see the full scene outside the viewfinder frame. It also gets a microprocessor-controlled, particularly silent, metal-leaf, focal-plane shutter that enables shutter speeds of up to 1/4000 seconds and an ISO range of 80-2500.
Leica M9 comes in two different styles: a standard black with ‘vulkanit’ finish, and for the first time, a version in steel-grey with classic leatherette finish. It is available now in the UK for GBP4850
Leica X1 Compact Camera

Alongside the M9, Leica presents the X1 compact digital camera. The design of the X1 is strongly reminiscent of the legendary Leica’s M-series rangefinders. The camera features a large 12.2 Megapixel APS-C format CMOS image sensor and an all-purpose LEICA ELMARIT 1:2.8/24 mm auto focus lens.
Leica X1 features F2.8-F16 aperture range, Face Detection, ISO 100-3200, analogue-style shutter speed and aperture dials and a 2.7-inch Lcd Display. The X1 supports SD/SDHC cards and has an HDMI connector. It will be available in the UK starting January 2010.
